As they were driving away from a call, policemen from the St. Lucie Region Sheriff's office in Florida heard a barely perceptible whimpering sound coming from a septic drain that made them stop in their tracks. They soon discovered a puppy on the brink of drowning, with no home to go to. One of the officers believed that it was destiny that they found him and decided to adopt him on the spot.

Although the deputies were almost finished with the call they were on, they caught wind of faint cries coming from an empty lot. Many people might have ignored them, but not these men. They stopped and investigated the source of the sounds.

James Getting was one of the officers who discovered the little puppy struggling to stay afloat in a septic drain. The pup was scared and exhausted, and on the brink of giving up when he was rescued. After several baths to get him smelling like a dog again, they tried to locate his family. However, it seemed that he didn't have one, and Getting believed that their encounter was meant to be.

Therefore, he brought the puppy home and aptly named him Puddle. Now he is growing up extremely comfortably and lacks for absolutely nothing.
