Left to Die in a Dumpster: How One Brave Pup Fought for Survival
A puppy, now named Ziggy, was discovered in a storage container in an alley. The poor pup had severe wounds that looked like bites, hematomas on his ears, infections around his eyes, and secondary skin infections everywhere, all oozing pus.
The puppy was also infested with parasites, and had to be immediately taken to the ICU. Despite being medically restricted from eating too much food due to the potential for refeeding syndrome, Ziggy had a healthy appetite on his first day in the ICU, which was a good sign that he hadn't given up.
However, by day three, Ziggy was diagnosed with puppy strangles, a disease where the immune system attacks the skin. If Ziggy's owner had started treatment earlier, he might not have suffered as long as he did. Ziggy was neglected and left in a container, with bite wounds and infections, making immorality an issue before he became ill. Ziggy's lymph nodes ruptured due to the untreated puppy strangles, which should have killed him. Nevertheless, Ziggy miraculously survived the night. On the sixth day, Ziggy was released from the ICU, and the little warrior was determined to keep fighting. Though he still had a long way to go, he was now in a medical foster home with the TAF therapy dog team.
By day 20, Ziggy had not yet started his treatment for mange, but he had gained a pound. His lymph nodes were already smaller, and his body reacted positively to the medication.
On day 30, Ziggy was living his best life, with an adorable chubby puppy belly and enjoying belly rubs from construction workers. Despite suppressing his immune system with Prednisone to treat Puppy Strangles, Ziggy still suffered from other skin problems, such as mange.
On day 53, Ziggy had grown big and strong.
By day 64, Ziggy was just like any other puppy, acting like a pup, with the company of other adorable little ones. Despite everything that happened to him, Ziggy had proven himself to be a fighter.
Day 75: Ziggy has made so much progress in the last few weeks! His coat is looking fuller and shinier, and he's gained several pounds. The stubborn sore under his ear is finally starting to heal, and his skin infections are clearing up. He's also starting to show more of his personality, playing with toys and giving plenty of kisses. It's been amazing to see how far he's come since we first found him in that storage container.
Day 80: We've been taking Ziggy on more and more adventures lately, and he loves exploring new places. He's especially fond of playing in the water, and we've been taking him to a nearby creek where he can splash around to his heart's content. It's so heartwarming to see him having fun and enjoying life, after everything he's been through.
Day 90: Ziggy's progress has been so remarkable that we've decided to officially adopt him into our family. He's become such an important part of our lives, and we can't imagine ever letting him go. We're excited to continue watching him grow and thrive, and we're committed to giving him the love and care he deserves.
Day 100: Today marks a major milestone for Ziggy--it's been 100 days since he was rescued from that storage container in the alley. Looking back on everything he's been through, it's incredible to see how far he's come. We're so proud of him, and we're grateful for the support and encouragement of everyone who's been a part of his journey. Here's to many more happy days with our beloved Ziggy!
